“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” ~ Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)
I’m reminded of a story about a man and a rock. One night, the Lord visited a man, showed him a large rock and explained that he was to push against the rock with all his might. So, the man did this daily for many years toiling from sun up to sun down, pushing with all his might. Each night the man returned to his cabin sore, worn out and feeling discouraged.
Seeing this, the adversary decided to place thoughts of doubt into the man’s mind: “You have been pushing against that rock for a long time and it hasn't budged. Why kill yourself over this? You are never going to move it.” the man began to think that the task was impossible, that he was a failure and so he decided to give just the minimum effort. One day he prayed: “Lord, I have labored long and hard in Your service, putting all my strength to do that which you have asked. Yet, after all this time, that rock has not budged, not even by half a millimeter! What is wrong? Why am I failing?”
The Lord responded: “I told you that your task was to push against the rock with all your strength, which you have done. Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it. And now you come to me thinking that you have failed. But look at yourself, your arms are strong and muscled, your back sinewy and brown, your hands are calloused from constant pressure and your legs have become massive and hard. Through opposition you have grown much and your abilities now surpass that which you used to have. Yet you haven't moved the rock. But your calling was to be obedient, to push and to exercise your faith and trust in my wisdom. This you have done. I, my friend, will now move the rock.
The moral of the story is, when God instructs us to do something, we wont always understand why or to what end. We just need to trust God and be obedient! God loves us and knows what’s best for us. He knows the plans He has for us, plans to prosper us and not harm us, to give us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). So, continue to exercise your faith and PUSH. (Prayer Until Something Happens)
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me to trust You more and to exercise my faith, knowing that You can move any mountain that stands in my way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Yours In His Service
